Laser Facial Hair Removal

Facial hair is a natural occurrence that many find tiresome. As a result, countless women and men have gone to lengths to have their facial hair removed. For men, it is the hair on the chin, in the nose and ears that commonly require removal, for women, the popular 'problem areas' are the eyebrows and upper lip.

Each individual has his or her own degree of tolerance towards facial hair. What may be unacceptable for some may be permissible to someone else. In general, however, people tend to want the removal of facial hairs that are thicker and darker as these stand out more.

The removal of facial hair can be done by in a variety of ways, from plucking to shaving and tweezing to threading. Other classic methods of facial hair removal are waxing or using depilatories. These two methods are especially common on areas where shaving isn't a solution or where there are too many hair follicles to allow for efficient plucking and tweezing.

Depilatories are generally found in cream form that contains a type of chemical that dissolves the hair near the surface of the skin. This form of hair removal may be cheap but its effect is temporary and the hair tends to grow back a few days later. Some people might also find themselves experiencing an allergic reaction to the chemicals making up the depilatory cream.

Waxing is also a cheap option for facial hair removal with its effects lasting longer than depilatory creams. The main drawbacks of this form of hair removal are that it is temporary (even though the hair takes a little longer to grow back) as well painful.

A relatively new method of removing facial hair that is growing in popularity is laser facial hair removal. This method uses a laser directed over the facial hair follicles. This laser is activated upon contact with a follicle to damage it just enough so that re-growth is prevented. An appealing advantage to using this form of hair removal is that it is permanent so you won't have to worry about any unwanted hairs growing back. One thing to note with laser facial hair removal is that you are not allowed to undergo any other hair removal treatments before your laser procedure.

Laser facial hair removal is a relatively short procedure that takes up to 15 minutes for a full face. It is much more expensive to get done than any other method mentioned above, but if you think about the permanent benefits of removing your facial hair by laser treatment and the money you will save by not needing buy creams or pay for waxing and plucking treatments, the money spent will be well worth your while.

Using a laser to remove facial hair however requires a skilled technician, as lasers must not come too close to the eyes. In addition, not all beauty or skin centers offer this form of hair removal treatment.

The use of lasers need not be confined to the process of laser facial hair removal as unwanted hair from other parts of the body - such as the neck - can also be successfully removed using this method.

Before embarking on a laser facial hair removal treatment, do remember to check whether your skin is suitable for such a technique. This will depend heavily on the type of your skin and your hair pigment as different skin and pigment types will produce different results when applied with the laser treatment.
